Preliminary information
Come you ho anticipato nell'introduzione di questa mia guida, Instagram, unlike WhatsApp and Messenger, it does not allow the archiving of chats, understood as the possibility of hiding conversations. That said, in the next few paragraphs of this guide, I'll explain how to archive instagram chats, saving them through the appropriate function of the social network.
How to save Instagram chats
If you wonder how to archive instagram chats, understood as the possibility to download an archive containing all your Instagram data, including chats, all you have to do is continue reading this tutorial. In fact, in the following lines I will explain how to carry out this operation through theInstagram app for Android and iOS and from your computer, by connecting to the Web version of the social network.
Give smartphone and tablet
archive Instagram chats from smartphones and tablets, you must act through the social network app for Android and iOS. That said, launch the Instagram that you have downloaded to your device and log into your account, if you haven't already.
Once the main application screen is displayed, tap onicona dell'omino (or on the tuo profilo miniature, if you have added more accounts), in order to go to the section dedicated to your profile.
Now, press the ☰ icon located in the upper right corner and, in the menu that is shown to you, tap on the item Settings. Once this is done, press on the items Security> Download data and, in the text field that is shown to you, type theemail address where you wish to receive the file containing all the contents related to your account Instagram, including chats.
Next, hit the button Request the download and confirm the operation by typing the Password of your Instagram account. Finally, hit the button NEXT and then end.
Once this is done, within 48 hours, you will receive an email from Instagram containing a link that will allow you to download an archive with all your account information, including the chats made on the platform: to download the file in question, press the button Download the data, then log in to your account again and, finally, tap the item again Download the data.
At the end of this operation, to see the archived chats, you just have to extract the ZIP package obtained and open the file named Messages.json. Subsequently, to view the chats downloaded from Instagram, refer to the information contained in the appropriate chapter of this tutorial.
From PC
You can also download Instagram chats from PC, by connecting to the official website of the well-known photographic social network and logging into your account.
Once this is done, go to the section of your profile by pressing onicona dell'omino located at the top right, then click first on theicona dell'ingranaggio and then on the voice Privacy and security, located in the menu that is shown to you.
Now, tap on the item Request the download located in correspondence with the wording Data download. Then type theemail address where you wish to receive the archive containing all your data and click on the button NEXT. Finally, type the Password of your Instagram account and confirm the operation by pressing the button Request the download.
Once this operation has been carried out, you will receive, within 48 hours, at the indicated email address, an email message from Instagram, containing the useful link to download the file you requested.
At this point, to download the file in question, click on the button Download the data. Once this is done, log back into your Instagram account and, at the end of the operation, press the button Download the data, to get the file ZIP with all Instagram data.
At this point, after extracting the archive, you can find the Instagram chats inside the file Messages.json: if you need more information on how to view archived chats, refer to the instructions in the next chapter.
How to see archived chats on Instagram
If you wonder how to see archived Instagram chats, I guess you are having trouble opening files Messages.json contained in the ZIP archive downloaded from Instagram.
In that case, you need to know that files with.json can be viewed on PC through more traditional text editor programs, such as software Notepad + + for Windows and Atom for macOS. Regarding smartphone e tabletinstead, you need to use some apps, such as JSON Viewer for Android and Jayson for iOS.
Alternatively, since the aforementioned tools allow you to open files JSON, but to see only their structure, you can use an online tool, to view the content of these documents in a more orderly way. To be precise, what you need to do is copy the data contained within the file JSON and paste them into the text fields of one of the many online tools that convert files JSON in CSV, for example Concave.

How to save Instagram chat photos
Instead of downloading the Instagram chat archive, you would like save photos contained in the same? No problem: keep reading the next paragraphs, to find out how to do this through the Instagram for Android and iOS or via the Instagram app for Windows 10.
I remind you, however, that the photos received in the Instagram chats can be saved at any time only if they have been sent starting from the multimedia gallery of your device (the picture icon).
In the event that, however, it was a photo taken on the spot via the Instagram camera (camera icon), the sender must have selected the option for the recipient to save the received multimedia items Keep in chat being sent.

Now, presses on the conversation that took place with the user of your interest and, once the multimedia element you want to save is displayed, press and hold your finger on it. Finally, hit the button Save.

From PC
save photos received in Instagram chats from PC, you must use the Instagram application for Windows 10. It is not possible, in fact, to view messages received and sent on Instagram via the official website of the social network.
That said, if you've already downloaded and launched the Instagram from Microsoft Store, log in to your account first, then click onairplane icon located at the top right, to access the chat of Instagram, locate the conversation of your interest and press and hold the left button mouse over the photo to save.
